I hold this truth to be self-evident: that great pizza is a right and not a privilege in the City of Brotherly Love. And, I can say with complete confidence that I know where you can find the best pie you’ll ever taste and then subsequently, devour.
Tacconelli’s Pizza, located in the neighborhood of Port Richmond, has been serving up the best gourmet brick oven pizza for four generations. My favorite is the white pizza with plum tomatoes and basil. Be warned though; you have to reserve your dough the morning of, because they only make 100 pies a day. And they go fast because it’s that good.
The pizzeria itself is casual. It’s a family affair, filled with garlic lovin’ locals. It’s also a BYOB, although you’re more likely to see people toting a cooler filled with a six pack than a bottle of merlot. But, that’s the beauty of the casual neighborhood atmosphere. You’ll be treated the same as anyone else, especially when it comes to ordering your pie. Don’t dare try and order more than three toppings on your pizza or you’re likely to get tossed into the brick oven. But, it’s all in good fun, ya know?

I was just there on Saturday… ate a half a pie and loved it. I was with 12 other people and all of them but 2 were told by the waitress (very sweetly) that they ordered wrong.

Tacs is the best — and I’m not just saying that because I’m a neighborhood gal!
