Good Food and Plenty of It
The 4th Street Deli, a longtime Philly institution, has a rep for re-imagining average dishes into delicious, super-sized monstrosities. A single cream-filled éclair is the size of a pound cake loaf, a Reuben sandwich is laden with a mountain of meat and sauerkraut, and a lox platter (for one!) comes equipped with two bagels and more than a pound of lox.
And then there are the matzoh balls.
Make a fist, and then picture that fist swollen to twice its normal size, and you’ve come close to approximating the girth of one of 4th Street Deli’s zaftig mo balls. Served in an appropriately large bowl of chicken soup, 4th Street’s matzoh balls are surprisingly airy, delicate and moist. Pair the soup with one of the deli’s hefty corned beef or turkey sandwiches, and you’ll happily have leftovers for a week.

Jen says:
A friend of mine just spotted a smart car (so cute!) parked outside the Deli. I think it was about as big as the sandwiches.

Caroline says:
if you want something normal-sized (which I do, because America’s supersize habit gets on my nerves) order their Grilled Cheese. There’s only so much cheese a sandwich can take. And it’s yum.

My advice: Order a sandwich to share. You won’t go hungry, and you’ll still leave with leftovers.
