My girlfriend lives across the street and I pick up the Hungarian potato pancakes there all the time. We've even gone there with a group of friends, and the service was always good, the food excellent. Gets a little wild on Sat night, but what bar doesn't?

"Outsider" is too negative a word. New Wave is more like when you visit another country and don't speak the language. I don't speak Polish, but I've been many times and everyone is always so nice. On more than one occasion, the regulars have bought drinks for my friends and me. And my friends don't speak Polish either!

The New Wave has been on my restaurant hit list for a while now. I don't like feeling like an outsider though. And I don't think the fact that I'm from Port Richmond and 25% Polish would help me avoid the stares there. What's a girl to do?

No, it's a completely different place with the same name, although I haven't tried the 3rd street cafe.
