It’s what you do in December that really matters in the NFL. With the Cowboys and Giants floundering, the Eagles have looked like a Super Bowl team this past month. The Birds went into New York and Dallas and came out victorious to put them in position to relax on New Year’s Eve.

The Cowboys were embarrassed today by the Detroit Lions. Tony Romo should take his free trip to Hawaii and run. With the Dallas loss, the [...]

Polish String Band Running

This morning I woke up excited. You see, I’ve always loved big parades, and, to me, the best acts of any parade are the marching bands. Forget floats. Forget balloons. You just can’t top the sound of a tight band of more than 50 musicians coming down the street right toward you. It’s magic.

But there isn’t a parade today. That’s tomorrow (if it doesn’t rain), when the Mummers rule Broad Street, and “2 [...]

If you’re like me and have no desire to wake up before 5 p.m. on New Year’s Day, but still have that urge to strut to the Mummers, don’t worry, it can be done. 2nd Street in South Philly, or “Two Street” as Philadelphians call it, is where the unofficial parade after party occurs. Plain and simple, it’s wild.

Sure the parade down Broad Street and the Fancy Brigade performances at the PA Convention [...]

Polish American String Band

Comics. Fancies. String Bands. Fancy Brigades. I’m talking about Mummers. I’m talking about New Year’s Day. I’m talking about 10,000 wildly costumed men and women strutting and dancing their way down Broad Street after who knows how much partying the night before. It’s a spectacle that’s pure Philly and you’ve just gotta see it.

On the other hand, the parade starts at 9 a.m. and you may be feeling less than solid [...]

This will be the third Making Time New Years Party, and they just get weirder and weirder. The short: $40 ($35 if you get your ticket now) for an all-night open bar–all the way to 3:30AM–and three floors of megaton bombing dance blasts. Everyone who goes to this leaves with stories of bizarre things they saw and did while ripped on Sparks and Daft Punk. Relationships are ruined, dumb things happen, inside jokes start, awesome new things are born. [...]

Charles Plaza is one of those restaurants that makes you want to consider eating Chinese food more often. It has a huge vegetarian menu, and everything I ate was delicious (and quite reasonably priced). Plus, Charles makes the place have an almost homey feel. Most customers said hello to him by name. At one point, he sang “Happy Birthday” to a guest and brought him a small gift. When we were ordering, Charles told us that one of the [...]
