Orchestrate a Visit to the Orchestra

Kimmel Center at Night

The Philadelphia Orchestra is one of the world’s most renowned, and their city home, the Kimmel Center, is one of the greatest spaces to see music in the city. To my great surprise and pleasure, it turns out that you don’t actually need a complicated outfit, a gold pocket watch, a powdered wig and proof of your born nobility to go to see a famous orchestra perform. All you need is to show up a few hours early with ten dollars and a little indifference toward your seating. Between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on the day of normal subscription concerts, it’s “PECO Power Hour,” during which you show up to buy your tickets. Since the worst seats in the house normally start at ten dollars and the best get up above a hundred, you can’t go wrong. It’s the perfect way to finally get out and hear what the big fuss over that Mozart dude is all about.

Tom says:

Breaking – sometimes you can go to the Kimmel with even less than $10 and still manage to see some music. Note their Free in the Plaza series:
