Tonight, Megawords Magazine and Free News Projects are releasing their joint document of local graffiti’s heyday: Public Wall Writing in Philadelphia. The new photo book covers the late sixties through the early eighties, the hot days when the city was graffiti’s cradle, no surface was blank, and you didn’t have to be 23 to buy a paint pen from Pearl. Love it or hate it, these were formative years for the [...]
In a small corner room on the second floor of the Philadelphia Museum of Art–room 296 to be exact–you will uncover an eerie treasure. The museum has a collection of eye miniatures from the late 18th century, which are painted on pins, lockets and rings. Supposedly, these miniatures originally derived from one painter who was paid on commission to paint an eye portrait (?) as a present for her fiancé, who also happened [...]

Two eateries, Apamate and Amada, have obliged with mini-grocery areas selling Ortiz tuna and Clementine juice. And now, foodies no longer have to rely on LaTienda.com for a lomo fix. Northern Liberties’ Quince Fine Foods is an entire store specializing in all things paprika-spiced.
Housed in a onetime telegraph office, this Girard [...]

So, here’s my brilliant find for today: a toy library.
This library is a place where local parents can borrow a number of age-appropriate toys, without having to spend a lot [...]
Fabric Row once stretched from 4th and Lombard all the way down to Washington. Jewish immigrant workers built Philly’s garment industry here, and its center at Fitzwater is still spinning after more than a hundred years. A block away, so are the matzoh balls. Check it out:

On fabric row there are always deals.

Bolts of fabric line the street, and passersby can browse.
