Never Too Late to Think About The Dream
***An anonymous uwishunu reader submitted the following. I must profusely apologize because I was late getting this posted, and I’ve had to remove some outdated information. Even though MLK Day has passed, it’s still a worthy submission:
Right this minute I am grooving to the hit Will.i.am lyrics for the new movie Freedom Writers, which rings in contemporary tribute to Martin Luther King’s I Have a Dream. The sounds are beating in my head as it repetitively sings, “I Have a Dream” and states, “we’re going to work it out, one day,” and with the inclusion of the actual dynamics of Dr. King’s voice I move rhythmically. It is a worthy tribute to celebrate NOT JUST ONE DAY but this weekend and every day; the legacy of one of the greatest American heroes and one of the most significant dreams in world history.
So, celebrate The Dream at the box office with films such as Dreamgirls and Freedom Writers. Or if you are hesitate to give all your money to The Bridge or UA Theater, attend a service at Mother Bethel A.M.E church, explore plays, visit the National Constitution Center or the African-American Art Museum.
I mean, let’s be real, our city is highly rated and ready for the commemoration and celebration. African American history breathes heavily in Philadelphia with many social outlets and very well known creative, intellectual voices. After all, Philly is where it’s at! We are the birth place of independence and has rich African-American historical and cultural roots; so, it is the perfect city to learn, teach and celebrate The Dream.
