Tonight: See the Writing on the Walls
Tonight, Megawords Magazine and Free News Projects are releasing their joint document of local graffiti’s heyday: Public Wall Writing in Philadelphia. The new photo book covers the late sixties through the early eighties, the hot days when the city was graffiti’s cradle, no surface was blank, and you didn’t have to be 23 to buy a paint pen from Pearl. Love it or hate it, these were formative years for the art of getting over, and a wild, interesting time in Philly and art history.
The opening is from 6-8 p.m. at the Fleisher Ollman gallery, 1616 Walnut, Suite 100. There’ll be food, all manner of audio and visual trickery, and the book for less than you’ll likely be able to get it anywhere else.
