Puppet Karaoke

I have no idea why people like going to regular karaoke. There are two things you can do there: you can sing, wherein you either sound like a show-off (if you’re good) or like you swallowed an eagle (if you’re bad); or you can sit back and watch a bunch of people stumble through select hits from Grease. Not my idea of a good night out.

Puppet Karaoke bypasses the stupidity of regular karaoke by ensuring that you don’t have to look at people when they sing. Instead, you look at their puppets in all of their ridiculous glory. Do I want to watch a sweaty man sing Devo? No. Do I want to watch a puppet made of fruit sing Devo? Yes. And Puppet Karaoke isn’t just karaoke either, despite its name. Alex and Scott, the brains behind the operation, pad the event with comedy skits and performances by occasionally awkward guest hosts. Don’t have a puppet? They even provide you with emergency items to create a character on the spot.

It’s happening again tonight at the MRoom. Come have a drink, channel Jim Henson, and get ready to sing.

About the Blogger

Age: 24 Neighborhood: Fishtown After I graduated from college, lack of funds left me with the option of either moving back with my parents in northern New Hampshire or in with my boyfriend in Philadelphia. I chose wisely. After living in Roxborough for a year and commuting out of the city every day, I got a job in the Philly-proper and a house in Fishtown, which I love. I like keeping busy. I write (humor, fiction, etc.), embroider clothing, and occasionally perform things. In the summer I spend most of my time outside though, riding my bike, playing frisbee, swimming, and flailing my arms in excitement. www.megandrob.net www.ihearyoulikestories.com
