Rita’s When You Need it Most
Submitted by Amber Clayton:

Every Fall, all water ice joints around the city close down to the dismay of most Philadelphians. Although it may be 19 degrees in February, some of us still crave the smooth-textured, sugary, icy treat in the middle of winter. Don’t worry, you can get your fix at the Gallery downtown. The food court in the Gallery Mall located at Market and 11th has a Rita’s Water Ice open all year long! You can take the train, bike or simply walk to sit in the warm mall and enjoy this cold, delicious treat in the water ice off-season.
My friend and I discovered this last year while taking a stroll through the mall. We spotted a Rita’s and to our surprise it was open! We immediately walked up and ordered our water ices. They had a large variety of flavors. I had a cherry-lemon mix and my friend opted for the mango. Not only can you enjoy a treat on the spot, you can also order the gallon buckets for long-term consumption or for a large group. If you’re a water ice-lovin’ Philadelphian or a winter visitor, you can still get water ice in the middle of winter.

Love, love, love waterice, but I simply can’t think of eating it in frigid Feb.
