Broke on 10th? Heung Fa beats Wawa

I used to spend a lot of time working on projects at Space 1026 in Chinatown. I certainly wasn’t making a lot of money on the work I was doing at that time. Sometimes, in the middle of eight-hour screenprinting sessions, I’d get hungry. Really, really hungry. But, due to my financial limitations at the time, I couldn’t always afford the Wawa hoagie I incessantly craved. With no more than four dollars in my pocket, I’d walk around the corner, passing beneath the Chinatown arch, enter 114 North 10th Street, The Heung Fa Chun Sweet House and eagerly place my order.
For less than $3.50, I’d stuff myself with awesome food. I’d get a large cup of Salty Tofu (or as they have it posted: “Salty Do Fu”). It’s spicy, garlicy, salty and hot, and you can get it with or without shrimp. And that only costs $1.40! Follow that with a large container or egg or rice noodles, fried with veggies, and you get to watch the proprieters stuff so much food into the container that they actually have to staple it to keep it closed! All that for only $2.00. My monetary situation is notably better these days, but I still always swing by there anytime I’m in Chinatown. The Sweet House has sustained me through the best and worst financial times.

Their sweet do-fa is the best in town. Great suggestion!
