Cheap Chinese Double Feature

chinesedoublefeature.jpg

If you are looking for some tasty, cheap Chinese food in West Philly, you have two options: Choy Wong and Jackie Chan’s! Choy Wong is located at 50th and Baltimore Avenue (next to the Farmer’s Market). They give you a generous amount of food for a low, low price. The gravy fries are great and I hear the gravy is vegetarian (I would ask first ’cause I am not totally sure)! There are vegan choices and there’s meat too. They are open really late, I believe at least until 2am. I love the curved tile wall inside. If you are near Baltimore Ave., this is for you.

Jackie Chan’s is at 42nd and Lancaster. I am assuming this place is named after the movie star. I have yet to ask, but maybe if you go there you can inquire about that. My friends and I order from here at least once a week. Just like Choy Wong: cheap, plentiful, and delicious! The “small” servings are around $3 and they still give you a big portion of food. My friends and I mainly get vegetarian/vegan stuff, but my sister once got the chicken and liked it. If you are in West Philly on Lancaster, this is your place.

Both places have yummy lemonade and sweet tea, and they give you great plastic containers that can be reused. Both places also have your food done in ten minutes – if you call ahead, it’s super fast take-out. And again, for both places I suggest the sesame tofu and the gravy fries.

So, for hot, delicious, fast Chinese food in West Philadelphia go to Jackie Chan’s or Choy Wong’s!

there are approx. 37 other chinese fast food places in west philly. as a daily choy wong customer, i recommend the veggie steamed dumplings or szechwan tofu, if not because its good then because its cheap and not bad. they close at 11 on the week nights and 1 on the weekends. after that you have to go across the street to peking inn, they close at 3 during the week and 4 on the weekends. i eat way too much choy wong. and wendy can do no wrong.
