Weekend Round-Up

FRIDAY_

The Taming of the Shrew
Lantern Theater Company at St. Stephen’s Theater, 10th and Ludlow

It’s Katherine versus Petruchio, once again. This time out, we’ve got an old school all-male cast. Hilarious and poetic in the 16th century, still hilarious and poetic today. Tonight and tomorrow at eight, Sunday afternoon at two and then again at seven.

POPPED! w/ Dr. Dog / Spinto / Bardo
460 N 9th

Is this show the Popped! crown jewel? Maybe. More young 215 psychedelics will be together in Starlight than have ever congregated together before.
The whole place is going to lift off and fly away to the dark side of the sun – don’t miss it. $15, $8pm.

Teddy Scares Release at Conspiracy
910 N. 2nd Street

CP already said it here – it’s a party for a new comic book about killer bears. The artists will be there and the drinks will be free. 6-9pm.

SATURDAY_

Jennifer Steinkamp: Video Installations
Locks Gallery, 600 Washington Square South

Six separate video installations ranging in scale from 15 inches to 15 feet tall, all of stylized 3-D animations of plants. Steinkamp is a professor at UCLA – as the dudes say, this action is “pretty sweet.”

POPPED! / Making Time
1000 N Hancock / 600 Spring Garden

It’s a total manticore of a Saturday for the ear plugged high stamina night crew – you can start at the Popped! fest with Hail Social, Phil Moore Browne, Feather Mills, Public Record and Moveable Type and then, something like nine blocks away, move to Bonde de Role, Solewax Night Versions and The Klaxons up at Making Time. It doesn’t end until everyone stops dancing… and will that ever actually happen?

SUNDAY_

Philly Sewing Collective’s Fabric Swap Meet
401 Lombard

The Sewing Collective‘s second annual fabric swap is on, from noon to four. If you’re textile-ly inclined, this is the Super Bowl of opportunities for meeting like hands, checking out what everyone else is working on, and what they have left over for you.

Checkhov/Lizarbrain
Pig Iron Theatre at the Latvian Hall

It’s closing weekend for Lizardbrain. Eight on Friday, two and eight on Saturday, final show at eight on Sunday.

The Philadelphia Film Festival

Oh yes, it’s Film Fest time. More than three hundred films over two weeks, many of which you will never get a chance to see again. Not even on Netflix. There’s still another week of this action, so get out there and see some action.
