Alô Brasil
The gyrating hips, percussion, and invigorating samba may be too much for some to keep up with this Saturday, May 26, 2007 at the World Café, but it will give many of us a reason to whip-out those dare-to-ware brightly sequenced numbers.
The show Alô Brasil consists of twelve Philadelphia musicians spanning three generations who were born out of a passion for Brazilian music. Accompanied by energetic dancers stunningly dressed in traditional elaborate customs, the band draws audiences into an irresistible, vibrant, spiritual experience. Although it is not the full Brazilian Carnival of Rio where singers and dancers fill the streets, beaches, or just about wherever there are people and music, it is a definite enchantment for the eyes and ears of Philadelphians, and who knows maybe the inspired crowd will lead a uninhibited Philly parade of the escolas… or is that too much action for University City?
