Okay, so here’s a totally late entry to my mailbox that’s too close to my heart to relegate to the weekend picks: there’s a tour of the east Fairmount Park mansions tomorrow morning at 10am that’s going to include ice cream making. lemonade, and “colonial games.”

Maybe it was my hanging out in west park mopping and hauling bricks for a year that I owe my mansion love to, but for real, these giant 18th century shacks are amazing and generally inaccessible. The east park batch (which include Woodford and Laurel Hill on this tour) are set in rugged territory along the river, northwest of the zoo, and there’s little reason you’d pass them by accident. What better way to go and discover this sweet patch of park than with a guide and the promise of ice cream at the end?
