Tonight at Avant Gentlemen’s Lodge: Technicolor Hell
Philadelphia’s monsters of ugly sound are assembling tonight for a free blast of pure hideous electronic glee. This summit, which features eleven (far-)outsider Philadelphia projects, marks the release of Technicolor Hell, a new disc documenting these groups and their efforts in the city’s dirtiest, darkest, reverbiest, circuit bent and most digitally delayed corners.
This release is a massive effort from the combined camps of comp participant and once weekend pick Dave Smolen’s infant Malleable Records, the out-sound champions at Bowerbird (tonight hosting the release show) and Space1026′s own human factory, Mark Price, who hand-designed the record and its marvelously printed packaging.
The project’s participants are all performing for free at the Avant Gentleman’s Lodge and the artifact they’re celebrating is only six bucks. Performances will vary from nightmarish (“ÂÂtechnicolor hell”ÂÂ) to ecstatic, explosive and bright, and with eleven acts on, everyone’s bound to keep it short. Smolen, Price and co-destroyer Davey Harms are taking their acts and the new record all over America, starting tomorrow–now is the time to support the best of our local worst.
