YFS Fest: Lee Scratch Perry

leeperry.jpgTo celebrate Black Music Month, the Young Friends of African Diasporan Institutions, (YFS) will be teaming up with Philadelphia’s World Cafe Live to present YFS Fest, a series of four concerts over the course of June and July. Four influential acts will take the stage while the downstairs lobby swells with the work of local artists, as well as information about YFS member organizations. This is the first in what is to be an annual festival.

Artists slotted to perform include Lee “Scratch” Perry (June 10th), Philadelphia’s own soul singer Bilal (June 16th), afro beat artists Seun Kuti (June 30th), and DJ Rich Medina with Femi Kuti (July 12th)

June 10th’s concert with Lee “Scratch” Perry is sure to thrill reggae and ska fans of all ages. The last time he visited the World Cafe Live, he performed to a sold out audience. He’s been listed in Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Artists of All Time and won a Grammy in 2003 for his album Jamaican E.T.

Dub Is A Weapon and Sarah The Selektor will be opening.

Tom says:

So bummed to be out of town for this, guhhhhhhhh.

I will be jamming Perry tapes on a boombox while I’m camping.
