Get Your Feet Wet, and Bring A Paddle

The Philadelphia Canoe Club is hosting an open house with tons of free activities right on the Schuylkill River.

Take this opportunity to learn what the Canoe Club is all about, and try it for yourself. There will be demonstrations on paddling along with PCC membership information. But it doesn’t stop there. You can compete in an 8.4 mile race down the river! The race starts at 12 pm (10:30 registration) and costs $15. Imagine zooming past the city in a canoe!

But if you’re not in it for a long haul (or just don’t want to pay the cash), there’s plenty more to do. Try out the different types of boats, canoes, kayaks, maybe even purchase one at the used boat and equipment sale. There’s food available, demos, live music, vendors, and even an art show! Ava Blitz, sculptor and public artist, will be floating sculptures on the river, as part of a monumental floating sculpture garden that will grow year to year.

So gear up and make some splashes this Sunday, July 8 from 10 am to 4 pm on the river. Such a nice way to end a week of celebrations. The PCC clubhouse is in Fairmount Park at the bank of the Wissahickon Creek and Schuylkill River.
