Philly Primer: What is Wawa?

wawa.jpg
I take Wawa for granted these days, but I remember the first time I went to one.  I was in Philly for the weekend visiting my boyfriend, and while we were wandering around

Chinatown, he said, “Let’s go to Wawa.”  My immediate assumption was that Wawa was an awesome Asian food store that would be serving up ready-to-go sushi and those delicious Pocky sticks.  What I found was a convenience store.  I was, at the time, disappointed, and didn’t fully appreciate my introduction
to a

Philadelphia institution.I can tell you now, though, that Wawa is not to be taken lightly.  It is not like your 7-11 or your A-Plus.  Why?  It’s really good. Consider the evidence: 1) Tasty sandwiches that are made fresh and not left under some sort of freakish tanning-salon heat lamp.  2) Surcharge-free ATMs.  3) Really good coffee.  4) A general good attitude towards freshness.Yeah, when you come down to it, the place is still a convenience store.  But it’s a

Philadelphia convenience store.  And when you hop out to get a soda, you aren’t going to the store.  You’re going to Wawa.http://www.wawa.com/

I love Wawa so much. I could sing its praises all day. In fact, I even wrote a uwishunu blog post about Wawa — don’t know where it ended up though! I was praising the best Wawa employee, Dana, at 19th & Chestnut. She is so nice & friendly- gets my day off to an amazing start.

The only prob with that Wawa is: NO FOUNTAIN BEVERAGES. I know, it’s awful.

And one final thing: I heart a chicken salad shortie with banana peppers so so much.
