World Cafe Live: On Stage With Rita Coolidge

World Cafe Live’s series, On Stage, is back with its 12th episode. This episode features Rita Coolidge, the Grammy Award winning singer with over twenty singles on the charts, including memorable hits like We’re All Alone, Higher & Higher, and One Fine Day. Oh, and let’s not forget All Time High, which was the title track for the 007 film Octopussy.

She also wrote Love Came For Me, the title track to Splash, but we’ll forgive her for that one.

She won the 1974 Grammy for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group for the song From the Bottle to the Bottom, and then again in 1976 for Lover Please. The coolest thing about this, is that her partner for these songs was Kris Kristofferson. While some people think of him in terms of his music, his Grammy award winning albums, his Oscar nominated score (Songwriter, 1984), I think of him as the bad ass sidekick of Wesley Snipes in the Blade movies.

You’ll be able to catch this episode of On Stage on July 22nd on WHYY at 11pm. Make sure you check your local PBS listings for show air dates and times, and contacts your local station and let them know you want to see On Stage!

John Doe will be performing at the World Cafe next week on Wednesday, July 25th. The doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7:30.

During the late 70′s through the mid-80′s, Doe was a part of the hugely influential punk rock group, X. Produced by Ray Manczarek, the keyboardist of The Doors, X went on to record Los Angeles and Wild Gift, two albums ranked in the top 500 albums of all time by Rolling Stone. They released several more albums on major labels before their eventual disbandment and then regrouped in the early 90s to record again.

If you haven’t seen Doe live in X, or caught his solo project, you might have seen him in films like Boogie Nights, The Good Girl, Road House, or Oliver Stone’s Salvador. He also has a recurring role on the television show Roswell.
