Cool Housing for Philly Fringe / Live Arts

Where do 1,500 performers on nearly zero budget stay when they come to Philadelphia for the Fringe / Live Arts Fest? Chamounix Mansion to the rescue! Philadelphia’s international hostel has 80 beds in dorm style rooms, in a Federal Period mansion and a Gothic Revival carriage house (see pic). At $23 per person, per night, those gals from the Isle of Man can afford to bring their whole phalanx of kaber tossers instead of just their tag team road show!
OK, we did the math… where do SOME of the 1,500 performers stay when they’re in Philly?
Our old friend, David Commander, has at least 50 friends coming from Berlin to see his show here in Philadelphia. They all think they’re staying on his couch. Send ‘em to Chamounix, Dave.

Todd Kimmell says:
Last night, Chamounix Mansion was packed with a combination of our regular summer season international backpack toting tourists… and… American Idol auditioners? Auditioneers?
OK, some of those auditioning for American Idol!
Much to the delight and horror of all, the stairwell, the front porch, the veranda, the wreck room (with piano), the trail leading off into the woods… all filled with leaping, wailing, shrieking, emoting singers of various talent.
I’m genuinely sorry I missed it.
This morning I asked two guys from Hungary, a Dutch girl and an Austrailian girl what they thought, as I gave them a lift to the bus stop. On cue, as if they rehearsed it, they all posed like Edvard Munch’s SCREAM.
… and Paula, what did you think?
