Hey! Do you like being sad all the time? No? Great! That probably means you should go see a comedy show (or ten) during the Fringe Festival. And at least one of those shows should be with the longform improv group Rare Bird Show. A couple of weekends ago I went to their Fringe Preview show, which was tucked in a tiny conference room in the Independence Park Hotel (Motto: “Come for the powerpoint, stay for the jokes”). It was great. Rare Bird Show gives the sort of performance that only three improvisers who are entirely comfortable with each other can: fluid, hilarious, and comfortable.

Rare Bird Show is doing eight performances during the Fringe Festival, and the fact that every show will have a different opening group makes it a bit tempting to go to all of them. Personally, I recommend going to the 8 p.m. show on 9/8 because it’s the only time they’ll have a sketch group opening, and there’s a tender spot in my heart for sketch. But you can always check out the full list of openers on their website.

About the Blogger

Age: 24 Neighborhood: Fishtown After I graduated from college, lack of funds left me with the option of either moving back with my parents in northern New Hampshire or in with my boyfriend in Philadelphia. I chose wisely. After living in Roxborough for a year and commuting out of the city every day, I got a job in the Philly-proper and a house in Fishtown, which I love. I like keeping busy. I write (humor, fiction, etc.), embroider clothing, and occasionally perform things. In the summer I spend most of my time outside though, riding my bike, playing frisbee, swimming, and flailing my arms in excitement. www.megandrob.net www.ihearyoulikestories.com
