Pyramid of Pizza: Santucci Brothers

Santucci Brothers Pizza is one of the finest eateries in Philadelphia. Their square style tomato pie is unrivaled. You can get this pizza at a few locations but the original shop is at 4019 O St—how often do you get up to O street?

I work for R5 productions (concert promoter) and when our “Near” NE Philly friends are coming down for a show, we often request that they bring us the coveted pyramid. Three descending sized boxes of this amazing tomato pie. Often you can see us chowing down at the door reluctantly taking money and stamping hands as we put back slice after slice. This is the classic Philly style cheese on the bottom pizza or tomato pie, not to be confused with the cheese-less tomato pie. Santucci’s pies have a thicker gooier crust than Tony’s Place’s circular tomato pie, if you are familiar, or have read my previous blog. I like both very much; it’s more of an apples and oranges type of thing. Santucci Brothers also makes fancy versions of their square pies with various toppings and even white varieties, but I’m firmly in the classic tomato pie camp myself.

Here are two locations!

Santucci Brothers Pizza
4019 O St., Philadelphia, PA 19124

Santucci Brothers Pizza 2
2313 E Venango St., Philadelphia 19134

About the Blogger

Tony | 30 | West Philly I am a Philadelphia native. I was born in Wissanoming and moved when I was twelve to Mayfair (aka lower NE Philly). I now live in West Philly and have for the last ten years. I work for R5 Productions, an independent music promotion company that puts on the bulk of Indie Rock and Punk shows in town as well as folk and hip-hop. I used to sing for a punk band called R.A.M.B.O. until May 2007, we played in thirty five countries in Asia, Australia, North America and Europe, we toured the U.S. is a vegetable oil fueled van. My main passion is nature—especially birds. Despite not yet finishing my degree (12 year rock-and-roll vacation), I've worked with birds in the Canadian Arctic and New York City and will shortly be leaving for Peru (most bird rich bird on earth). I love to go bird watching and this year I was team captain for Team Bristlehead/ Kowa that participated in the World Series of Birding. I am fortunate to live in the city with the largest park system in the world and so close to New Jersey, possibly the best state for bird watching on the country.

Richie, If you want the REAL Santucci’s pizza, go see Joe Santucci JR. up in the northeast at knights and woodhaven rd. ( 4048 Woodhaven Rd | Btwn Knights Rd & Millbrooke Rd) Joe uses his father’s original recipe, from what I understand most of the others are franchises,….

About the Blogger

Hi! I'm Eric. I'm a Springsteen-loving, Bon-Jovi singing Jersey boy who recently up and left, relocating to the awesome city of Philadelphia. I teach literature and writing courses at Montgomery County College and Holy Family University, and also work for GPTMC, causing my coworkers to wonder if I have any kind of life. I don't. I enjoy photography, writing, reading, and playing Halo III. I spend a lot of time fussing over my chinchilla, Mittens. He's adorable, and you'll love him.
