Another Crazy Weatherman

Post submitted by Mike McKee

Accuweather’s Elliot Abrams has got the weather on lock down. Planning a trip to the shore? Considering tossing out your rock salt? Zipping the hood off your parka? Most Philadelphians won’t make a move without checking in with Elliot. Like fellow meteorologist Jim Kosek, Abrams’ has a penchant for flamboyance. His weatherblog at Accuweather.com brings a smile to my face about as often as the weather itself.

To celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday, Abrams went pun crazy with lines like “we faced a Tempest that seemed like it wanted to last for a Twelfth Night. As the weekend progressed, it turned into a Midsummer Night’s Dream. Tomorrow should be As You Like It.” Later he refers to an approaching storm as the “Merchant of Menance.” Oddly enough, he made no wordplay on Bloomsday, which as I remember was breezy and sunny enough to make everyone chilling in Rittenhouse Square “Re-Joyce.” A few days later, however, he marked the birth of French mathematician Blaise Paschal by noting that heat and humidity by saying it was time to “sum up” the weather.

When puns fail him, Abrams employs the use of state of the art technology like The Sam-Cam, a camera-phone tracking the moods of his little white dog (who hates humidity).
