First Person Story Slam on August 28th: A Recap

Ten storytellers, five minutes, three judges, one theme.
The bar is full, but the drinks flow to ease the nerves of those who have dared to put their names into the bucket. Only ten will have the chance tonight for their five minutes in the spotlight to tell their story. This month, the theme is “trespassing”. Each story must include this theme; some are literal accounts, some creatively abstracted, and some barely include the word itself, but all must be true and accurate. The winner of tonight will receive the golden ticket to the Grand Slam in November to compete with the winners of the four slams previous and two more to come.
The stories transcend through time and memory and personal moments to the ears of the crowd who are supportive with their laughter, tears and applause. Trespassing on college ball fields, muggings in the Northeast, mice in the apartment, peeping toms in Seattle, getting stuck in a fantasy suite of a hotel room, memories of childhood mirrored by realizations of fatherhood, getting locked out naked on the fire escape, candid heart breaking prose revealing the lies we are forced to tell, memories of college and the wild politics we held on to, and the times we were saved by the force of somewhere unknown.
Story slams.. they are worth checking out.. or maybe you will even brave the bucket and tell your own.
