Fringe Review: Addicted to Bad Ideas

Brooklyn based band World/Inferno Friendship Society began a two night stand at World Cafe Live as part of this year’s Fringe Festival. Addicted to Bad Ideas is a stage presentation of their new full length album of the same name, which is a rock opera about the life of actor Peter Lorre.
World/Inferno Friendship Society has quite a cult following. There was a Rocky Horror Picture Show vibe with young folks dressed in 40s attire waltzing to the first song. With the second song, the music got punkier. Fans, suits and all, moshed and crowd surfed. It was one of those performances where the band and audience were truly connected, with each drawing off the other.

Peter Lorre, besides being a legendary actor, from what little I knew seemed to have had a pretty interesting life. If you go looking to be informed about Peter Lorre while being entertained, you’ll probably be disappointed. There were video screens and some stage-y elements, but it was mostly about the music. The nine-member band was polished and energetic. Their music is a blend of punk and numerous other influences, which should be quite accessible for most folks. I can’t say I know much more about Peter Lorre, but the music was great and just about everyone had a grand time.
