Weekend Picks!

The Paul Green School of Rock plays Indie Rock!
World Cafe Live
3025 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA
The Paul Green crew push the boundaries of all-ages way, way out there. Tonight the kids – who are as young as eight years old – jam in a serious way through the discographies of The Pixies, Flaming Lips, REM, The Cure and the Violent Femmes.
6pm, $10.
Pig Iron Theater presents Isabella
ICE BOX Projects Space
1400 N American, Philadelphia, PA
Our friends at Pig Iron’s serious appropriation of Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure, built around a lonely, nude mortician and the corpses in his care. Striking and strange but totally adults- only. 7pm, $20.
Crescendolls with Club Lyfestiles
Level Nite Club,
21st and Market, Philadelphia, PA
I’ve been wondering what the deal is with LEVEL ever since it opened, and it looks like Friday is the night to find out. Local famous DJs JHN RDN and Ian Saint Laurent are in charge of the dance music (the night is named after a Daft Punk track, if that’s any indicator of what they’ll be blasting) and rad local dance machine Club Lyfestiles (members of which have been seen here)
will be burning the floor and breaking hearts.
10pm. $5.

Central Bark Doggy Day Care Grand Opening Gala
2001 S. 29th Street, Philadelphia, PA
Grab your four legged friend and bring the family out for this Caribbean-themed event, running from 4pm to 8pm, at Central Bark Doggy Day Care. Honoring 11 PAWS members and hosting a Puppy Pirate Cove play area (pirate puppies?!), this gala and fundraiser will help aid PAWS’ new downtown center, slated to open this Fall.

Johnny Brenda’s

Killer double-feature at JBs, an early Fringe joint and DJ Deejay’s
infamous Beatles and Stones night. Check out the Brat website for more about their new “super-sized portion of American excess” and then stick around for some classic excess from across the pond.

The 30th annual Philadelphia Distance Run has been the premier half marathon in the U.S. for over a quarter century. This prestigious race will again feature bands every mile. Late registration info for today and course maps are at the website; the run starts at 7:45am on Sunday at the Art Museum.
ONGOING____
Fringe Fest It closes this weekend. Don’t let this be a year where you kept on meaning to check something out but never got around to it – there’re over 50 shows this weekend alone. Make it happen!
