Weekend Picks!

Small Change Presents Brent Green
Ted’s rad weekend of films starts with an all-star night at Vox. This gets highest weekend pick recommendation based on Brent’s last Small Change showing alone – with Xander and Jo on this bill too, this is what we call the next level. 8pm, $6, all ages.
A-Sides
XPN Free at Noon
Our buddies the A-Sides just put out a new record and are this week’s
subject of XPN’s free at noon series. Do it up and then go back to work.
Circle / Endless Boogie / Birds of Maya
Latvian Society, 531 N 7th St
This show will be so psychedelic that it will become your happening and it will freak you out. All three bands represent different brands of “heavy” and they all know how to jam a riff for at least ten minutes. At the wonderful Latvian Society, where kids can hang out and grown-ups can drink 22-ounce beers.
8pm, $10, all ages.
Subhumans, World/Inferno, Toxic Narcotic, Witchhunt
First Unitarian Church, 22nd and Chestnut
Elsewhere in the city the punx will be upped. Subhumans are classic pillars of British peace punk and they, uh, kill it just as hard as they did twenty years ago.
7:30pm, $12, all ages.
Vice and Colt 45 present Turbo Station
Transit, 600 Spring Garden St
Dance and fade into a free malt liquor fueled black hole version of reality. If you act like an idiot at this your reward might be an appearance in a magazine. $5 after midnight.

Oso presents his second annual “A Love Supreme Costume Party: 70s vs. the 80s”
The Warehouse, 30th and Cecil B. Moore Ave.
Post Yom Kippur/Ramadan rave featuring bands, DJs, dancers, live mural painting, Dock Street Brewing Company and some home brew. 4pm-9pm barbecuing, 9pm until infinity dancing. Apparently free.
Exhumed Films Teen Rebellion Triple Feature!
International House, 3701 Chestnut Street
Exhumed is showing Rock ‘n’ Roll High School, Satan’s Cheerleaders and Joy Sticks on glorious film.
8pm, $12

Found Magazine Live Presentation
First Unitarian Church, 22nd and Chestnut
Davy and Jason of Found mag talk about and show off their latest finds. Their risque Dirty Found event at Vox earlier this year was a great time – this should be on that level, but a little more PG-13. Check out the Found website ; if you don’t know what Found is.
8pm, $5, all ages.
Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs
Franklin Institute, 222 N. 20th Street
Your last chance to see King Tut is Sunday. Check out the Franklin Institute website for ticket
and time details.
$18-$33.
Hang out and draw at the Art Museum
2600 Ben Franklin Parkway
Our friends at Dancing Meatballs have Sunday pegged for dropping by the museum (with kids if you’ve got them) and hanging out for a while to draw. An artist will be on hand to help and provide supplies from 12-2:30pm and it’s free

Ongoing
Terror Behind the Walls
Eastern State Penitentiary, 21st and Fairmount
One of the country’s top ten haunted houses opens for business (and terror and gore etc.) this Friday. This was one of the best $15 I spent last October. A haunted prisoner even heckled me by saying I looked like Mr. Rogers. Watch for broader coverage coming soon!
Small Change Weekend of Films
I know it’s picked Friday, but there’re good things going on Saturday and Sunday too. Read Ted’s post from earlier this week.
