When This Old World Starts Getting Me Down…

… you’ll know where to find me.
I am a slightly claustrophobic person- easily put to unease by crowds, small spaces, and stale air. I lived in west philly in big ole houses with backyards and porches galore for five years. I was always one to seek out roofs whenever possible, there is just something about being up and above all that is otherwise staring you in the eye. I remember once even climbing to the roof of the house I grew up in the suburbs with some like minded city folks! only an unimpressive two stories, but still- there is just something about it.
Now, at long last I am lucky enough to live in a building with a roof top that is hard to compete with. The skyline glitters, the art museum glows, the trains rumble by, 676 hums with traffic, and there is always a cool breeze, even on the hottest summer night. It is humbling, and quieting, and away from it all. It is our front porch and backyard, it has plants, garden beds, and bbqing capabilities. I have visions of it being laden with grass and tropical plants with big shiny leaves, but the view and the breeze are enough to never allow it to be anything less than miraculous.

I think that old Drifters song sums it up pretty well! “Right smack dab in the middle of town, I’ve bound a paradise that’s trouble proof (up on the roof) And if this world starts getting you down” ! da da da ! up on the roof! you get the picture so I’ll leave you with that and these photos.
