Bartram’s Garden Photo Tour
I recently took a trip to the lovely Bartram’s Garden and decided to document it with some photos.
Here is a photo from inside the Bartram house. It is a model of the Bartram’s Cider Press.

Here is a stone carving on the side of the Bartram house. Bartram was a member of the Society of Friends, but this plaque’s somewhat deist sentiment somehow upset the Quakers, who ultimately de-/Friend/ed him.

This is a view of a desk in the Bartram house displaying a variety of items for study…
More pictures of the house, garden, and some beautiful flowers after the jump! And check out the Illadates episode featuring the garden.

The original Bartram house underwent renovations for an addition and the staircase was altered. In this photo, the unique renovation is visible. It’s a bit tricky to navigate!

This is another photo of the Bartram house. The color of the cabinets is amazing and the photo doesn’t come close to portraying it accurately.

Here’s a lovely view of the Schuylkill River on the south side of the garden, bounded by trees.

This is a photo of some interesting flowers. The name of the plant is Snail Vine and the blossoms indeed look like snail shells.
Here is a view to the East at the garden.

Here is an external view of part of the Bartram house.

This is a view of the garden. The main area is open for visits and picnics during the week. It’s a great place to go for a stroll or sit and enjoy the plants.

This is a photo of the famed Franklinia Alatamaha plant, named for Ben Franklin. It is has not been found in the wild since the early 1800s, but thanks to the Bartrams, this native Georgia plant is flourishing in Philadelphia.

This is a really nice set of photos and accompanying descriptions. Now I would like to tour this area myself.
