Campus Philly Kick-Off Recap

For the past few years as both a student and post-graduate I’ve seen the presence of Campus Philly more than quite a few times. However, their image and mission have always seemed to be mostly in my periphery. If the non-profit organization continues to promote its “one big campus” mission with events like this past weekends kick-off, soon enough the college town that Philly is, will become the college town that Philly should be.
Campus Philly works with higher education, business, and public institutions to bring students into involvement with the cultural life of Philadelphia as both an outreach of the college campuses involved and a reciprocating outreach from the city that wants to keep its students working and living here post-graduation.

The well-attended Parkway event had excited co-eds zigzagging frantically, filling up gigantic IKEA bags with all the free goodies they could get their hands on. Aside free museums, motor cross and skateboard demos, and a slew of other activities from participating sponsors, this weekends showdown featured a tight and well chosen line up of musical events with support from the City of Philadelphia and Fresh Out Media. Talib Kweli headlined with an impressive set, inspiring young minds with a solid demonstration of what one man with a microphone can do. Keep an eye-out for upcoming Campus Philly events. Though this one may be hard to top, I have a feeling this things can only get better.
