Weekend Picks!

Jesu, Torche, Fog
First Unitarian Church, 22nd and Chestnut
Metal diva Justin Broderick laying down My Bloody Valentine style pop (!?!), giganto riffs and harmonies from Torche, and Minnesota-style weird Ninja Tune pop from Fog. Possibly the weirdest genre-cruncher show at the Church since Erase Errata / Submission Hold / Numbers / The Ex.
8pm, $12
Making Time with guests DJ Erol Alkan and New Young Pony Club
Pure Nightclub, 1221 St James
The jamz that melt your makeup and leave you nodding for days. Same routine as usual except not, because this time MT returns to the gorgeous Pure nightclub, where everything is just a little harder better faster and stronger, or yeah, whatever.
9pm-3:30am, free with tickets from last week or $10.

Here is a pop show you can hold hands and drink Yards Saison. Listen to the Castanets here and then do it up. 9pm, $10.
GitoGito Hustler Sidewalk Concert
Sailor Jerry, 116-118 S. 13th Street
Check out GitoGito Hustler performing a sidewalk concert outside Sailor Jerry. This is their only stop in Philadelphia on their US tour. Free drinks (with ID!) from Sailor Jerry Rum. Mmm!
Tulips & Daffodil Planting
Jefferson Square Park, 9am – Noon
Spend some time outdoors at Jefferson Square Park, planting tulips, daffodils, and other flowers through out the park. Volunteers get free shirts!
England Belongs To Twee!
Upstairs at the Khbyer, 56 S 2nd
Former West Philly mayor Mike McKee and Fun Vamp Brian Labuda jam Crass on one deck and Bell and Sebastian on the other.
10pm, free.

C. Spencer Yeh, John Wiese, Carlos Giffoni, Newton
Vox Populi, 319 N 11th
Ars Nova Workshop presents the heavy hitters of noise music in an art gallery. Not to demean any of these dudes and their destructive power by shouting out their collabs in my hype blurb, but Yeh has performed with Wolf Eyes, Wiese was as a member of SUNNO))), Giffoni organizes the No Fun Fest and Newton is our local champion. Go to this and be alienated from your own senses.
8pm, $8.
R5 presents DJs Justice from Paris
Silk City, 5th and Spring Garden
These dudes are supposed to be spinning records at Silk after their sold out show at the Troc. Whoa dude. 10pm.
ONGOING
The Smashing Pumpkins, Explosions in the Sky
Tower Theater, 19 S 69th St, Upper Darby
I wrecked a car in Asheville NC this summer and the Pumpkins were there for the duration, playing a nine show residency. It looks like they decided to bring an abbreviated version of that model to Upper Darby, along with post-rock darlings Explosions in the Sky. 19th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 8pm, $39.50-$49.50.
Big Bang Film Fest
This weekend’s BBFF is a “celebration of some of the most exciting and inventive films in Action, Adventure, Suspense and Asian Action Cinema.” The fest is screening all over the place and at a wide range of times – hit up the schedule and go big.
Deaf Arts and Culture PaH! Fest
Tons of work by deaf artists in all mediums everywhere, starting Friday and out until around Thanksgiving. It’s all there on the
