Salzburg Marionettes at the Kimmel Center

Salzburg Marionettes at the Kimmel Center

Personally, I first became interested in puppets when I saw Being John Malkovich, since John Cusack is essentially my hero. The man can do no wrong. If he likes puppets, well, they have to be cool.

The Salzburg Marionette Theater has been performing for well over ninety years, entertaining children and adults with unique performances of Mozart’s operas, using fairy tale settings and miniature stages. These two foot call, hand carved wooden puppets perform so expressively, that you’ll think they are actual live performers.

Today through November 10th, you can catch the Salzburg Marionette’s first venture in American musical theater, as they perform The Sound of Music on Friday, November 9th. You can catch them in their original form tonight and Saturday, performing Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Even though they are missing John Cusack, the show is still going to an absolute joy to watch. Uwishunu is sending a blogger over to the performance, and will have a great write up for you next week.
