Wawapalooza
We all know about buying our food fresh and local, but what about our entertainment? Created by a newly formed group, IdRatherBeHere, and focusing on Philly and South Jersey, Wawapalooza is about as fresh and local as you can get. From exposing the origin of the infamous Santa-snowball incident to discussing just how long a Shorti hoagie is, Wawapalooza gives both locals and visitors alike a look at Philly-area culture “” as ridiculous, boorish, and crazy as it can be.
The show sold out during this year’s Fringe Festival, and when I went to see a revival performance on Friday, the theater was almost packed to the brim once again. IdRatherBeHere is already working on a show for 2008 too, tentatively titled, “Wawapalooza II,” “The Hometown Heroes,” or my favorite, “Love and Hoagies.” I’m not sure when in 2008 the show is planned for, but I can pretty much guarantee you I’ll be in the city when it happens. Because, hey: I’d rather be here.
