Tegan and Sara
The Commerce Bank Arts Center, Sewell NJ
In the spirit of going big for the holiday season, I do hereby endorse the Tegan & Sara show in Sewell, New Jersey on these very weekend picks. So what if it’s out on the bizarro periphery? Tons of people like this band.
6:30pm, $25.

The Turnaround with Gregg Foreman and special guest Ian Svenonius The Barbary,
Frankford and Delaware
Total clash of the 90s titans stylee at the new main dance zone, the
Barbary. Storied Philly hipster (see the boggling, totally dated cover story from PW in 2003) Gregg Foreman and legendary DC provocateur Ian Svenonius spinning soul.
$5.

High School LSD Party: Bleached Black with Designer Drugs.
Fluid, 613 S 4th
The amazing flyer for this one is set in the high school letterman type that I assumed everyone associated with SXE, but I can’t tell if that irony was intentional on the promoter’s part or not. Killer dosed dancin’.

They Might Be Giants
Fillmore at the TLA, 2nd and South (9pm, $23.50/$25)
- or -
Ween
Tower Theater, 69th & Ludlow (8pm, $25-$35)
These two shows happening on the same night is, to me, the giant stadium nerd version of when there’s a USAISAMONSTER / Mincemeat or Tenspeed show at the Berks warehouse while Dale and Charles Cohen are playing at Big Pink. Choose your side, and by all means, wear the shirt of the band you choose to the show.

DJ RMT + Oh Murder! Inc.
The Khyber, 56 S 2nd
“An Electronic Renaissance! Visionary Electro, Cosmic Disco, Rap Anthems, Heavy Beats and Sweeping Arpeggios.” This will in all
likelihood deliver, but it’s not an electronic renaissance if they’re not projecting this.
9pm, free.

====

Prefuse-73, School of the Seven Bells, Blank Blue
First Unitarian Church, 22nd and Chestnut
At the last Prefuse show I passed my high school hippie friends were hanging out and straight jammin’. What does it mean that Phish crew can sometimes rock Warp records? Find out for your self at the church on a Sunday night.
8pm, $12.

Behold The Arctopus, Cleric, Satanized
The Khyber, 56 S 2nd
There’s a lot of devil music going on this weekend, but man, it does not get more furious and brutal than Behold the Arktopus. Cleric are a doom/synth/D&D/terror act and Satanized are our no-wave West Philly bros. Do hook ‘em horns at this.
9pm, $10

PS: I would also like to endorse watching Home Alone on Thanksgiving, No Country for Old Men as an Ongoing, and fading hard into some beaujolais nouveau every day until it’s out of season.
