The House of Tea

The House of Tea

Stop me if you’ve heard this one.

International architect gives up career working with Frank Lloyd Wright, joins the circus, makes cover of Life Magazine, then opens a tea shop which he leaves to Jessica, his circus elephant-riding daughter who leaves her subsequent career as a race track jockey to run the aforementioned tea boutique. If I had a nickel for every time that happens…

Anyway, that’s the backstory to the House of Tea, an emporium celebrating the beverage that delivers a kinder, gentler shot of caffeine… or no caffeine if you prefer. With more than 300 varieties in-house “” including five varieties of the coveted South African Rooibos teas, and dozens of organic and herbal teas, just point to one of their gleaming brass tea canisters and pick one. Not only are their leaves top-quality, they carry teas you won’t find anywhere else in the city. (Well, except for at several top hotels for which they create custom blends).

The House of Tea

Aficionados will also appreciate the selection of tea accessories, English bone china and authentic YiXing tea pots.

This looks a lot like a larger version of Premium Steap, on S 18th St next to DiBruno’s…

Daniel says:

In addition to being an architect (a profession he turned to after his acting career was ended by the McCarthy-era blacklist) and circus clown, Nat Litt was also a classically-trained chef and professional stage magician. Also probably a couple other things he never got around to telling me about.
