Palace At The Ben

By Carrie Estok

Stop the presses. I’ve found the city’s most perfect date restaurant.

Palace at the Ben knows how to do dining right. And no need to be afraid if you think the food will be too spicy, too exotic or too hard to pronounce; there’s something for everyone on their extensive menu.

From chicken to lamb, seafood to veggies, delicious choices abound. If you’re new to Indian cuisine, you might want to try the creamy Cashmere Chicken with cashews and golden raisins or Chana Masala, a dish with chickpeas and fresh tomatoes cooked in traditional spices. And don’t forget the Naan, the pillowy white bread that’s baked in the Tandoor oven.

More adventurous diners should check out the Lamb Pasanda, thinly sliced lamb that’s been marinated in garlic and yogurt and then sauteed with onions, chili peppers and tomatoes or the flavorful garlic and ginger, Tandoor broiled Malai Chicken Kabab. (If you go for lunch, try the Thali special. There’s a version for vegetarians and meat eaters and it gives you the chance to try 8 of the house specialties). And make sure to order the Rangpur Rose, their signature cocktail—it’s unlike anything I’ve ever tried before.

The sumptuous modern Indian decor, which incorporates nooks and crannies for a romantic dinner as well as tables large enough to accommodate big groups, Palace at the Ben rivals some of the city’s most popular restaurants by serving up one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time.
