Junto: The Future of Music Distribution

What’s a musician to do these days? What’s a record label to do these days? What’s a music fan to do these days? These may be questions only I ask myself (everyday), but most people have realized that in today’s music business the old model of records and record shops has been instantly overtaken by MP3s, digital distribution, iPods, blogs, file sharing, Myspace’s massive oversaturation and every other type of social networking media imaginable to get music to the listener’s ears. Pop music ditties accompany everything from internet pop-ups to ringtones, yet somehow the playing field of today’s music industry has simultaneously flattened and undulated in every way imaginable.
The boys at P’unk Ave host their monthly Junto to discuss exactly these questions or this question: What is the future of music distribution?
Geoff DiMasi and the P’unk Ave cool-nerd crew have invited a panel of community experts to discuss the topic and welcome discussion and discourse. Panelists include Mike Kiley of The Mural and the Mint; Kristin Thomson of Future of Music Coalition, Simple Machines and Tsunami; and Drexel Professor / Mad Dragon President Terry Tompkins.
The panel discussion will begin at 6:30 followed by questions from the community. Free beer and tomato pie. Shared food and ideas from participants strongly encouraged.
