Philadelphia is loaded with tasty restaurants in its many neighborhoods, and our bloggers have written about many of them. However, we wanted to bring you one step closer and give you a look at the restaurant scene through the eyes of the people who make it happen in the kitchen. That’s why we’re proud to introduce All Up In Their Grills, a monthly video series that will take you behind the scenes at five of Philly’s hottest eateries. Our first episode features chef/owner Jim Burke of James restaurant in Bella Vista. James is known for its romantic ambiance and excellent contemporary American menu that’s based on seasonal locally grown ingredients. As Philadelphia City Paper said, “There’s no such thing as a perfect restaurant, but James comes awfully close for a chef making his first real step out on his own.” On top of that, Jim turns out to be a really nice guy.
We’ll have a new episode for you on the first Tuesday of every month. Leave a comment and let us know what you think!

James is one of our other favorite restaurants in Philadelphia. The decor welcoming and the dining room staff unpretentious. They know what they’re doing. They know how to treat their guests. There is nothing like a somalia who can share his wine selection with enthusiasm. But all of these would mean nothing if the kitchen doesn’t know how to prepare very good to excellent dishes! Always a very enjoyable and satisfying dining experience at James :)
Note: The only down side is when the dining room has only a handful of diners, the music sounds uncomfortably loud. But when the dining room gets relatively full, the music doesn’t seem loud. Interestingly, this is not because the chatter of the other diners drowned out the music system, but I think it’s because the excess volume from the audio system is mostly absorb by the diners. Think sound absorbency.

I finally went to James this past weekend… it was great. It is so lovely in there.
Kristina Burke (of the famous risotto a la Kristina) was a gem, and very helpful.
