Ahh… Spring is here! In Philadelphia, that means Phillies baseball, the Easter Promenade Parade on South Street, and free water ice! Say what? Whether it’s called Italian ice, water ice, or slushy-sweet-mango-thingy, it’s free all day for anyone that walks up to any Rita’s Water Ice stand!

Founded in 1984, this national east coast chain has its roots in the PA area, and with over 35 locations in Philly alone, that can mean serious cavities by days end.

But no matter! It is the first day of Spring and now it’s time to come outside and explore Philly! After all, your reward is a sweet tasty treat. Enjoy!

About the Blogger

I was born in Philly but was made in China (it's tattooed on my right shoulder)! My parents thought I was quite the sovernior and appropriately raised me in Philly's chinatown. I'm first generation and proud of my culture and my city. Serving as a concierge at the Independence Visitor Center, I happily spend all day talking about Philadelphia to tourists and locals alike. It's an honor to be the host/tour guide of Chinatown for GPTMC's vodcasts. When I'm not pretending to be Mr. Philadelphia, I put on my ipod and cruise the town on my bicycle. People watching rules and so does Sugar Moms in Old City. I kill at skeeball! Living at the Italian Market is so great because it helps to fulfill my favorite pastime, eating!
