Szechuan Tasty House: Yummy BYOB in Chinatown

Szechuan Tasty House: Yummy BYOB in Chinatown

Post by Emaleigh Doley

Szechuan Tasty House at 902 Arch Street might not look like much from the outside, but the Chinatown restaurant lives up to its name. Right next to Eddie’s tattoo parlor and just a block away from The Trocadero, Tasty House is a great spot to grab a quick bite to eat and it’s both cheap and BYOB. Inside the low-key spot, you’ll find a small 1-room restaurant with orange walls, blinking holiday lights and a drop ceiling painted with a blue sky and white puffy clouds. The food is much more interesting. Szechuan spices are generally hot hot hot and the cooks really know how to craft bold and flavorful sauces.

We ordered A LOT of food:
- 2 bowls of Wonton Soup
- 2 Spring Rolls with shrimp, chicken and vegetables wrapped in thin, crispy rice paper
- Dumplings in Spicy Sauce (my favorite): pork dumplings infused in a bowl of spicy garlic sauce topped with minced garlic
- Beef with Black Bean Sauce: tender pieces of beef, sautéed mixed vegetables including carrots, snap peas, and mushrooms
- General Tso’s Tofu: the tofu is nice and crispy on the outside, slightly firm on the inside and in a delicious sauce with broccoli
GRAND TOTAL: $31.05!
