Mother of All Antique Shows to Hit Navy Yard

If you’re an antique lover, chances are you’ve heard of the Philadelphia Antiques Show, an annual exhibition and sale that draws 50 of the nation’s leading arts and antiques dealers to showcase rare period furniture, folk and fine art, ceramics, porcelain, silver and textiles. It’s “kind of a big deal” as they say in the industry, attracting thousands of visitors each year from around the globe. If you prefer to stick with Ikea, well, what can I say? Philadelphia has an Ikea right down the street from the show.
This year’s exhibition has the added attraction of being held at the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal at Pier One in The Navy Yard. It’s the first year the Antiques Show has visited the Navy Yard, and as a complement to its new location, the 2008 show will feature Fore & Aft, a special loan Exhibit of maritime arts and antiques from the Philadelphia region. You can check out fine art, sailor-made crafts, industrial artifacts and fragments, fixtures and fittings from the Age of Sail in the 15th and 16th centuries up to the Civil War. Proceeds from the show, now in its 47th year, will be donated to the Penn Lung Center, scheduled to open in the fall of 2008.
