Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival

By Kelly White
When Walnut Street closes to traffic for the afternoon, does hell freeze over? No, unless hell is an air-conditioned boutique near Rittenhouse Square. From Broad to 19th, the streets will be lined with culinary demonstrations, shopping and live music for the Annual Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival. Any given day in May the area is a circus, anyway. The rain or shine event just proves that the slickest move ever was born on this street: The Walnut Street Shuffle.
This is when you’re parading along Rittenhouse, shopping bags anchored on each arm, and you bump into everyone you know. The Spring Festival is the climax of this fateful occurrence. Seize a table at a street cafe, catch part of the all-day fashion show, or convince your kids that the outing is really about them with face painting, storytelling, and balloons. Meanwhile, you can decide what color of sandals to buy as local musicians tune out your conscience. Say you don’t like socializing? Dive headfirst into clothing racks, because there will be as many sales as there are familiar faces.
The Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival is on May 3 from 12-5 PM.
