Studioscopic: Artist Kukuli Velarde
This week’s episode of Studioscopic features Philadelphia artist Kukuli Velarde. Velarde’s intensely provocative work references pre-columbian imagery of her native Peru to explore issues of colonization as well as personal issues such as her own aging. Known and respected as a ceramics artist, she has lately exploring herself as a painter, a thing that Velarde once thought she would never do again. Filmmaker David Kessler takes you into her Norris Square studio.
