Weekend Picks!
Updated at the end of the week!

Center City District Gallery Night
Big Citypaper/Phillyfunguide one-time, non-First Friday gallery event. This is as good an opportunity as it gets to actually set an agenda and see the inside of at least fifteen rooms you haven’t before. Participating galleries and map are here, and yes, for some reason unknown reason, it’s a PDF. My unofficial guide to this event is coming later this week. 5-8:30pm.
Disfear, Parasytic, Dissystema, Javelina
First Unitarian Church, 22nd and Chestnut
Likely the first truly horrendous gray matter dirt-sweat Church show of this, the year of the circle-pitting punks, 2008. Disfear are former Pointless Fest headliners. Fun-wreckers are encouraged to stay at the oilcans. 8pm, $10.
Heartworks Nightvisions: Sound
Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N Frankford
Gang Gang Dance, Professor Murder, Paul Slocum’s Tree Wave, Meg Baird, Douglas Armour, Chad Brown, Kellie Marie Martin & David Jones, Cory Archangel and Megawords are all slated for this crazy art blockbuster. Full write-up later this week. 8pm (sharp), $20 combined door for both nights benefits the Mazzoni Center.
And Dim Sum Presents: Spin the Bottle
Upstairs at the Khyber, 52 S 2nd
Ask someone, anyone, if you can buy them a drink. 9pm, free.

Museum Art Classes for Children
Philadelphia Museum of Art, 26th and Ben Franklin Parkway
The art museum’s mini series of Saturday youth art classes starts this week. It’s $75 per kid ($60 for member families) aged 3-12 for five weeks in the museum with the pros. Click the link above and Ctrl-F for “saturday classes” for more info.
Heartworks Nightvisions: Sight
Ice Box Project Space, 1400 N American
Blockbuster art/goofball video show to accompany the above.
Monstermash of work by Alex Bag, Mark X Farina, Alex Da Corte, Steve Hall & Cathee Wilkins, Michael Bell Smith, Steven James, Chad Brown & Buzz Pierce, David Dempewolf, Joshua Callaghan, Patterson Beckwith, me, Paul Lee, Tara De Long and Paul Slocum. 6pm – midnight.

The Constantines, Oakley Hall
Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N Frankford
Indie rock show. 8pm, $10 advance / $12 day-of.
Franklin Institute Star Wars Exhibition
Franklin Institute, 222 N 20th.
This total monster of a “science can be fun” show is still on, but only for a few more weeks. There is no “trying” to go, etc.
