1st Annual Artists At Work Festival @ The Arts Garage

Interested in music, murals, film? Well be sure to stop by the Arts Garage (TAG) on Saturday, May 31st, 2008 at 4 p.m. for their 1st Annual Artists at Work Festival. TAG is a performance venue, where freelance and emerging artists interact and show their creative talents. The festival will provide art lovers with a little bit of everything and special guest appearances.

Starting at 4 p.m., entertainment will be provided by Lady Alma and the Back2Basic band. A mural dedication by Philly’s own Mayor Michael Nutter will follow the performance. But the evening doesn’t stop there, enjoy more sounds from Back2Basic and be sure to stay for the film screening of First Person at 7:30 p.m.

Directed and produced by Benjamin Herold, First Person is told through the stories of six promising inner-city Philadelphia teens and explores what happens to the dreams of low-income high school students who are disproportionately shut out of four-year colleges. Director Herold won the SCION Award for “Best First-Time Film Director” at the 2008 Philadelphia Film Festival and his documentary was also named Best Documentary at the 2008 Philadelphia Film Festival. If you or anyone you know has shared the struggles of these teens, then this is a must see!
