A Visit to the DNA Salon in Northern Liberties

Post by Ben Gilbert

Getting a haircut at the DnA Salon in Northern Liberties (located within the Liberties Walk plaza) is comforting. It’s easy and professional — like going to a friend’s house who happens to own a clean, well-lit, beautiful salon… just for you. I showed up for my appointment a little early, but Rick Juliani (my stylist for the day) was waiting and ready, greeting me as soon as I passed through DnA’s French doors and handing me off to another employee for the prerequisite hair washing. This was only the shampooing, little did I know.

Returning to the front of DnA, I must’ve resembled a wet dog, though Rick was calmly expecting this as he casually grilled me on what we were going to do with the wet mess sitting on top of my head. Over the course of the next hour, not only did we discuss comic books (The Walking Dead, anyone?) and music (Rick suggests Bishop Allen) but I was outfit with a snappy new haircut — the shortest it’s been in 10 years! And though he terrified me with a side comment at one point (“Are you self-concious about the recession up here?”), he quickly diffused the situation with anecdotal conversation regarding his own thinning flock.

A second (and final) shampoo later and I was ready to go, just 20 minutes shy of two hours. I felt fancy, as I can only imagine you will too. Looking for a good cut, interesting conversation and an elegant (if not luxurious) atmosphere? Look no further than DnA Salon.

I love DNA. Everyone that works there is incredibly nice and I’ve never been upset with my style. In fact, I’m pretty sure I just left there with one of the best cuts of my life! I highly recommend it to anyone.
