Art For The Cash Poor Spotlight: Rebecca Jacoby

Art For The Cash Poor, InLiquid’s annual art sale, is back for a ninth year. The weekend of bargain art shopping will take place June 14th & 15th, 1 to 6PM, rain or shine, at the Crane Arts Building. It’s a great chance to meet local artists and score some beautiful artwork. Photographs, paintings, screen prints, books”¦ so much for under $200. And of course, it wouldn’t be an AFTCP event without food, drinks, and live music.

We’ll be introducing you to various artists here on the ol’ uwish over the next few weeks as AFTCP approaches. Today, meet Rebecca Jacoby, a painter. She will be will be selling drawings, monoprints, and small paintings at Art for the Cash Poor.

How is it working as an artist in Philadelphia?
As a Philadelphia-based artist there are great opportunities to engage in a thriving visual arts community and to be a part of making Philadelphia a destination for gallerists, collectors, and shows that engage the public and showcase the massive quantity of talent in the city.

My studio, at the Crane Arts Building, is close to home and for me, provides the space I need to “just” do art: to be totally engaged in the process of making, which is the most important part of my life as an artist.

Who is your favorite Philly painter? Other than yourself, of course.
I really like the work of the painter Rebecca Saylor-Sack. I also like Michelle Marcuse’s work, especially her use of encaustic combined with other media. Combining media is a big part of my work and I love to look at other artists who combine often disparate media. I have never met either artist but I now know their work when I see it!
