Art action.
Wexler‘s (In)Between featuring Damien Hirst, Randall Sellers, Adelaide Paul, Tim Tate, Anne Siems, Dirk Staschke and Joe Boruchow is good enough reason to leave the house Friday, but you know the drill: walk around, go in any open doors, see art. Read Libby and Roberta’s picks here.

Art After 5: Frida Kahlo: Self Portrait by Miro Dance Theatre

The Art Museum

Awesome dance opening in conjunction with the unmissable Kahlo show. “Miro Dance Theatre premieres an original performance commissioned by Art After 5. Using dance, live animation, video, still imagery, choreography, and elaborate sets and costumes, Miro presents ‘a living performance sculpture’ that can be viewed from all sides. Inspired by The Broken Column (1944) and other Frida Kahlo paintings, it reflects on the artist’s struggles with illness and her penchant for self-expression. This performance is conjunction with the Museum’s Frida Kahlo exhibition.” 5:30-8pm, free after museum admission.

guy and Bartram wizard Joel Fry is lecturing on plants at 1pm. If you’re gardening, you can pick up plants discovered by William Bartram, or pick up some of the garden’s ultra-scarce Franklinia, available, naturally, in very limited quantities.

Dancingmeatballs fam recommend this one, and while it’s not strictly a Philadelphia pick, it will be May 4th on Sunday, and the Pennsylvania mountains are probably where I’d want to be spending the day. There’s a 5k (preregister on the site if you’re down), fishing and tons of kid stuff. 9am-3pm, free.
