Art for the Cash Poor Spotlight: Tim Wagner

Art For The Cash Poor, InLiquid’s annual art sale, is back for a ninth year. The weekend of bargain art shopping will take place June 14th & 15th, 1 to 6PM, rain or shine, at the Crane Arts Building. It’s a great chance to meet local artists and score some beautiful artwork. Photographs, paintings, screen prints, books”¦ so much for under $200. And of course, it wouldn’t be an AFTCP event without food, drinks, and live music.
We’ll be introducing you to various artists here on the ol’ uwish over the next few weeks as AFTCP approaches. Today, meet sculptor Tim Wagner. He’ll be showing and selling small mixed-media works that incorporate glass, ceramic, paint, wire, canvas, and other elements at Art for the Cash Poor.
1. Tell us 3 lines about yourself as an artist living in Philly
Philadelphia is a gritty, dirty city so any crazy thing you do is a improvement to the overall landscape. Philadelphia’s community and landscape allow the artists here to employ a certain amount of experimentation which would be suppressed in a city like Washington, DC. Philadelphia is a city with a lot of exciting things going on, various arts corridors, building after building of artist studios, plenty of community.

2. How accessible is inexpensive art in Philadelphia?
Inexpensive art is very accessible in Philly. Everyone seems to know someone who makes something so coming across something handmade is fairly easy in a place like this. Also, there is a wide variety of venues for inexpensive art here.. boutiques, fairs, festivals. Finding something unique and handmade is almost a social requirement when you are surrounded by so many makers.

AFTCP was awesome 2 yrs ago. Sadly, last year they had only half the artists at twice the price. How many “cash poor” people are buying $200 pillows?
